A Simple Running Log

Training for 11/6/19

Today, I had a couple things to cover for work in the afternoon. A week ago, I could’ve put off my run until I got home from that, but that time is gone. It’d be almost sunset by that point today. So I grudgingly got my butt off the couch and out the door before noon for once.

I was supposed to do three one-mile intervals at goal half marathon pace. I’m thinking finishing off my racing year with a half in the low- to mid-1:40s would be nice, so I shot for 8:00 miles on the intervals, which would be a 1:45 finish at Rehoboth, the top end of that range. If the intervals were faster than that, even better.

It was a gorgeous day for a run. A little breezy, but the temp was perfect, the humidity was decent and the sun was shining.

I did a mile to warm up, then sped up for the first mile. With the wind at my back, it felt easy, and I ran it in 7:44.

I did a half-mile recovery, then ran the second interval in 7:36, and it felt just as good.

The next half-mile recovery brought me up out of the swampy area past the ferry and into open farmland. Suddenly that little breeze felt like a strong wind when I had to run into it.

The final interval didn’t feel as easy, but I ran it in 7:45. I did the last half-mile recovery and then a 1.8-mile cool down to finish the 7.3-mile loop at an 8:27/mile overall average.

So maybe I’ll shoot for the lower end of the 1:40-something range in Rehoboth — if the weather is as nice as it was today, that is.
