Training for 7/13/17

Last night, Clark and I took Pepper to Lewes to try a dog-friendly restaurant we’d not visited before, Striper Bites. It was still kinda warm, even when the sun started to set, but I would much rather deal with that than clean up dog poop when I got home. The dinner was great; I had grilled rockfish with some kind of peach relish that was perfect.

We were sitting right next to the front entrance. Pepper attracted all kinds of attention the whole time as people came in and out. I love it when people tell us what a well-behaved dog he is. I just smile and nod, because I don’t feel like explaining how not well-behaved he’d be if we’d left him home. That’s why we’re out here instead of in the air conditioning.

While we were sitting there, I saw some girls leave the restaurant and then come back with ice cream, which reminded me King’s Homemade Ice Cream was right down the street, so I had to go there afterwards for some mint chocolate chip. And then we came home.

This morning, I didn’t feel like getting up early to run again, but then I checked the weather app on my phone — it already felt like 86 freaking degrees at 6:30 a.m., and it was just going to get worse, because today was supposed to be the hottest day of the heat wave. So I put on my running clothes and headed out.

Technically, I had three hill repeats on the schedule, but I really did not feel like driving out to the bridge, getting soaked in sweat and then having to sit in my car again to drive home. So I just did a lap around the 4.5-mile loop, which was about a mile farther than I’d have run had I done the repeats, so, good enough.

It was gross out there. Glad tomorrow is a rest day!

I’m still trying to make myself do some strength training downstairs. I am definitely not going up in the attic for that. It’s probably 125 degrees up there.

  1. Does Piper suffer from separation anxiety too? My Bandit does, so we stay at home as much as possible.

    • He definitely does! If it were up to him, none of us would ever leave the house. We also stay home as much as possible, and take him with us whenever we can. I always thought he’d grow out of it, but he’s about 8 now, so I’m pretty sure it’s just his personality.

      • Bandit’s better about it now but it’s still tough on her. None of the usual advice or aids help. She just wants people, really my husband and me, around. If she had her way, we’d all be superglued together.

      • Same with Pepper! He hates to be alone. I really wish he’d just chill on the couch in front of the TV (I’d leave it on for him if he wanted!) when we have to leave him, but he’d rather spend his time panicking that we’re never coming back.
