Training for 1/16/17

Saturday, I wound up not running. It was raining all day, so I was waiting for that to quit, and then my brother came over, so I just didn’t go.

Sunday, on the other hand, I had an incredible run. I went out for the 14-mile long run, with the Garmin. The first few miles didn’t feel so great physically, but the splits were all around 8:00, so I kept going (and tried to slow it down a little.)

By about mile 4, I felt pretty great. The miles kept ticking off between 8:10 and 8:20 without even having to think about it. I ate a GU and took a salt cap around the halfway point, but other than that, I just kept running — I never even had to use the bathroom!

It was over before I knew it. I hit ‘stop’ right at 14.5 miles — 1:59:02, an 8:12/mile average pace. I haven’t run that distance in a training run in under two hours in years.

I was really happy with that run, and walked back to the house with a huge stupid grin on my face. There’s something about ripping off a great training run like that, when there’s no one and nothing else out there to motivate me, like in a race, that just makes me feel like a real runner. I am outside running around for two hours because it makes me happy, clearly! Otherwise, why do it?

I went to my friend’s baby shower that afternoon, but when I got home, I didn’t put away any of the Christmas crap like I meant to.

This morning, I had to be up early to cover an event for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but I will run later this afternoon when I get home.
