Training for 1/11/17

The weather has warmed up nicely after the snow and sub-freezing wind chills over the weekend. Today, Pepper didn’t need his dork jacket and I could wear shorts. The roads are 100 percent cleared and there were only a few piles of snow along the shoulders that were still big enough to scare Pepper as we passed them.

We did an incredibly slow lap around the 7.3-mile loop. It was all Pepper’s fault. First, he stopped to poop no less than six times in the first mile. (And he wonders why I never let him stay home.) Then he tried to pull his “injured foot” trick again when I didn’t turn around at 1.5 miles. (When it was suddenly OK to run on again when I acted like I was going to let him turn me around there, I said “Looks like it feels fine after all!” and made him turn back around. Scam artist.) Then he needed to sniff all the grass that he has run past hundreds of times but was recently covered in snow. Then he found a “stick” that was really an exposed root. He refused to leave it though, and actually managed to rip it out of the ground. I was impressed. Then he had to poop some more.

We eventually made it home.
