A Simple Running Log

Training for 9/1/16

This morning, I woke up to thunder and lightning and sheets of rain. Rain doesn’t stop me from running, but lightning is another thing.

It looked like it was going to move out quickly though, so I ate some breakfast and waited. I didn’t have to wait long before the lightning was gone, and it wasn’t even raining anymore.

So I put Pepper in his harness and we went out to do a short run around the 4.5-mile loop. About two miles in, the rain came back. It was a pretty heavy downpour there for about half a mile. Pepper kept stopping to shake off and shoot me a “why the hell are we out here?” look.

But it slacked up, and the rest of the run home was fine. Other than the fact that for whatever reason, Pepper was extra flakey today. It seemed like everything — a fallen branch on the side of the road, the ‘ping’ of a raindrop landing on a mailbox as we ran past it, his own freaking reflection in a puddle — made him jump right in front of me and come to a complete stop in panic. It was funny the first couple of times, but then it was just annoying.

And that was the first run of September.
