A Simple Running Log

Training for 6/8/16

I’m going to get off my butt and run this evening, I really am. It’s just so windy out there right now! Yes, I am being lazy and making excuses. It really is windy though.

Anyway, today I saw a little blurb written for a local paper by Fredman, the sports photographer who takes pictures at all the Seashore Striders races. Apparently, while a 5K in Lewes was in progress last Saturday, one of the homeowners along the course walked to the finish line to complain to the race director about the runners on his “private road.” This guy must be new to the area — as Fredman points out, about a dozen 5Ks are held on that exact course every year. Including the one I’m running this coming Saturday haha. This guy is in for a treat!

I don’t see what’s so aggravating about a couple hundred 5K’ers using a (totally public) side street for an hour, tops. A road that remains open to the handful of cars that need to use it, by the way. It’s not like we’re talking about a marathon in a major city that shuts down main roads for hours.

But, this isn’t the first time I’ve heard of a local getting pissy about a little 5K around here. I will never forget in 2010, when I ran the Jungle Jim’s 5K in Rehoboth for the first time, and a guy who turned out to be a homeowner along the course went flying by the entire pack of runners, inches away from us, in his big green Lincoln Town Car to express his displeasure. He almost ran over one runner who was, I will admit, way too far off the shoulder, almost in the middle of the road. Still though, calm down, idiot!
