A Simple Running Log

Training for 6/7/16

Yesterday turned into a rest day, my first one in two weeks. I put off running too long, it got too hot to run outside or go upstairs to do strength training in the afternoon and then I had a town meeting to cover in the evening, so, bam, rest day.

This morning, I got up when Pepper wanted his breakfast, and went out first thing for an easy run. I did a lap around the 5.5-mile loop. It wasn’t too warm yet, but it felt pretty oppressive anyway. I checked the weather on my phone when I got home — 90 percent humidity. Yup, that explains it.

Today, I saw this:

That is Kaydom the wiemaraner, running a 4:13 mile with his owner, Brian Duff, at the State Street Mile, June 5 in Santa Barbara, Calif. They won the Platinum Performance Dog Mile and set what is believed to be a new record for fastest human-dog mile. Look at Kaydom’s face! That is one happy dog.

Meanwhile, here is Pepper the weimaraner:

In Pepper’s defense, I’m sure he could run a 4:13 if he had a human running partner fast enough, instead of me. But he’d still be pissed to be forced to get up off whatever he’s snoozing on to run in the first place haha.
