A Simple Running Log

Training for 5/24/16

Yesterday, I took Pepper out for an easy lap around the 4.5-mile loop. Nothing notable about it.

Today, I decided to do some speed work. It’s been a long time since I’ve done a hill repeat, so I went out to the Sharptown bridge.

It finally got warm today, like almost 80 and sunny. Unfortunately, I waited about as long as I could to go out there. I started running around 12:45 p.m.

I decided to do four repeats. Not the least I’ve ever done, but not nearly the most either. I did a mile on the road to warm up, and then ran up and over the bridge four times.

The first three went OK. I was dead by the time I started the fourth though, and needed a couple short walk breaks to get my breathing back under control. I took it super easy on the cool down mile too. It felt pretty hot. Wah wah.

I wound up running a total of 4.5 miles at an 8:57/mile pace. Not terrible, but not as fast as I usually run hill repeats. Guess I better get back in the habit! And maybe also get back in the habit of not waiting until the warmest part of the day to run.

Kara let me borrow her road bike for the next few weeks so I can ride with Clark as he finishes up his Eagleman training. I picked it up this afternoon, and we’re riding this evening. Clark had suggested riding to 3rd Wave, getting a beer and then coming home, but that’s 36 miles round trip. I don’t think I’m ready for that yet! I think tonight we’ll do a shorter ride. I’ll definitely be up for one of the beers in the fridge when we get back.

Also, this morning, the photography company that took pictures at St. Michaels posted the pictures. They’re free to download; there’s just a little sponsor logo in the corner. They turned out pretty well! I added them to my race report. I like how in a couple of them you can really see how hard it was raining, particularly in the second half of the race.
