Training for 5/4/16

Pepper went back to the vet today, hopefully for the last time until his next annual check up. The vet wanted to do one more urinalysis and some blood work. Those results should be back Friday. Even if there’s still a little protein in the pee, I think if the blood work comes back normal, the vet’s just going to assume everything is fine.

Pepper also got weighed again, and he’d maintained everything he’d gained the last time he was in there, so that’s a good sign.

Pepper handled it very well when the vet stuck a needle in his front leg to draw blood, which is funny, because when I went to put his running harness on him this afternoon, he acted like I was trying to kill him.

When I finally wrangled him into the harness, we went out and did a lap around the 6.5-mile loop. I wore my newest Zantes for the first time. I knew my old pair were getting worn out, but I didn’t realize how worn out they really were until I put on the new ones.

I didn’t wear the Garmin today, but I did happen to glance at the time around the 4-mile mark, and then again at the end. We’d run the last 2.5 miles in 19 minutes, about a 7:36/mile pace, which felt pretty good.

Unfortunately, I won’t get to see if Pepper can hold that pace (or rather, if he can make me hold that pace) for an entire 10K this Saturday, because the race organizers emailed me back that the Hyatt in Cambridge “asked that dogs not be included.” I don’t get it — it’s not like he’s going to be in the hotel — but whatever. I’ll probably still take him, just leave him in the car while I’m running, so he can go with me to meet Clark and his coworker after they finish their bike ride.
