Training for 4/10/15

Yesterday, I went upstairs first and did some strength training, including ab exercises, push-ups, invisible chair-sitting and lifting weights.

I was about to take Pepper for a little 3-mile easy run, when I noticed Clark had sent me a text asking if I’d ran yet. (Like he has to ask haha. He knows what a terrible procrastinator I am.) He asked if I wanted to run intervals with him, so I waited until he got home.

It was chilly and damp yesterday evening, enough so I wore gloves. Clark, Pepper and I set off down the road at an easy pace.

Then we did two two-minute hard intervals, with two minutes of rest between each, and six 30-second hard intervals, with 30 seconds of rest between each. Pepper just wanted to be out front! He dragged me past Clark every time.

Finally, we did six sprints. No matter what, Clark will always out-sprint me. I just don’t have that speed off the line. So when Clark yelled “go!” for the first one and Pepper and I were already two steps behind him, Pepper was NOT happy haha. He let out a high-pitched yelp and almost pulled my arm out its socket trying to catch up.

I asked Clark to let Pepper sprint with him for the remaining five. Pepper was happy to be out front again when we were running, but he didn’t understand or like how we kept walking back — away from the house — to the “starting line” to do the next sprint. He was way more interested in chewing on his stick.

When we got the sixth sprint done and wanted to run the rest of the way to the house easy, Pepper wasn’t really into that either. He dragged me back as fast as he could. I think we did about 3.3 miles total.

Today, it’s supposed to storm later, so I actually took Pepper out for our run this morning. I know! I’m shocked. We did an easy lap around the 4.5-mile loop.

This weekend is the Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Run in D.C. We’re heading up tomorrow afternoon to stop by packet pick-up and staying in College Park, near the Metro station. Sunday morning is supposed to be beautiful weather, and the cherry blossoms are at peak bloom this weekend, so it should be a perfect day for a race with 15,000 other runners. After the race, we’ve got a group reservation for brunch at a fancy little place downtown.
