A Simple Running Log

Training for 8/30/13

I didn’t get up in time to run before work this morning, so I’ll do that when I get home this afternoon. Technically, today was supposed to be a rest day anyway, but since I took off Sunday when I should have done my long run, I threw off my whole schedule this week. Again.

Tomorrow morning, TK and I are running the Last Blast Prediction 5K in Rehoboth, which precedes the awards ceremony for the summer series. I’ve won my age group every year I’ve done this series, but this was the first year I got first-place age group finishes in all six races I ran to qualify, earning a total score of 6, the lowest score I could get:

After the race, TK, Clark and I are going clamming with TK’s boyfriend, Parker. Except for Parker, neither of us have done this before, but it involves digging in mud, so I think it’ll be fun.

Sunday, I’d like to try that 17-miler again, and Monday I’ll do the strength training and short, easy run on the schedule. Other than that, my only plan for the long weekend at the moment is to get my hands on my first Punkin Ale of the year.

This year, Dogfish Head released some special edition ceramic Punkin Ale growlers, for sale at the brewery and brewpub:

I really wanted to get one, until someone finally asked how much they cost, and the answer was $169. Screw that! I’ll just get our boring old generic glass growler filled.

However, someone else posted a link to an eBay listing asking for $299 for one of those suckers. I guess they figure it’ll sell because Dogfish Head won’t ship them anywhere; you have to buy them in person. Maybe if that actually sells I should go buy a couple this weekend, just to resell them for some extra cash.

I also saw on Facebook this morning the Virginia Beach Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon organizers will once again have air conditioned charter buses parked on the course this Sunday, as “runner cooling stations.” Looks like they’re expecting this year’s race to be as hot and muggy as last year’s, so I’m really glad I’m not running it this time.
