A Simple Running Log

Training for 8/28/13

This morning, I took my second crack at the half-mile intervals I skipped out on yesterday.

I felt pretty well rested when I went out to run, but I knew I was going to be slow anyway because it was so humid. Oh well, an off speed workout is better than none.

I did a mile at 8:52 pace to warm up, and then I sped up for the first of six half-mile intervals at 10K pace. It felt like an all-out effort, yet slow as molasses. Humidity is the worst.

I slogged through all six intervals, with a quarter-mile of rest in between each, and then did about two more miles easy for a cool down.

In all, I ran the 7.2-mile loop in 57:03, a 7:56 overall average pace. I was shooting for about 7:00/mile pace during the intervals. Actual paces were 7:14 (yowza), 6:59, 7:02, 6:53, 7:02 and 6:52. Kinda all over the place.

I was soaked head to toe when I got home. The cool shower felt really good after that one.

  1. I know the feeling… Did my very first tempo run since, um, before May and about died. This was also my first real experience with humidity (aside from that awful 5k last Sept. in VA Beach)… Initially, I wanted to run my tempo pace for 20 min – ha! I cut it down to 15, it was just too disgusting.
