Training for 8/22/13

Last night, I didn’t do all my strength training. I did do ab exercises, some push-ups and invisible chair-sitting, but I just didn’t feel like going upstairs to lift.

Clark had gone shopping after work for what he’s going to wear to his brother’s wedding next month. When he got home after 10 p.m., he broke out a bottle of Dogfish Head Red & White that’s been in the fridge for a couple of weeks. We emptied that and moved on to the bottle of Black & Blue.

I was still wide awake at midnight, so I sent my brother a happy birthday text at 12:01 a.m. Clark had fallen asleep on the couch at that point, so I took his beer out of his hand and finished it for him, after I’d finished my own.

I don’t know what time I fell asleep too, but it was pretty late. I woke up on the couch at 5 a.m. and went to bed. It was much later in the morning when I finally got out of bed to eat breakfast and run. Since it’s gotten warm and very humid here again, that was a bad thing.

Between the beer, the weather and not getting enough sleep, I just felt like crap from the first step today. I was supposed to do another 40-minute tempo run, but I felt so sapped during the warm up mile I figured just getting in the mileage would be impressive enough.

At least it rained on me a little bit the first half of the run, but around mile 4, it stopped. Then the sun came out, which is when it really started to suck. I also had to stop twice in the woods to go to the bathroom — and felt like I had to go to the bathroom pretty much the whole run — but I saw that coming.

Somehow, I got through the whole 8.2-mile loop. I was so glad to be done! Of course, I had to go right to the bathroom again as soon as I went inside. I still don’t feel completely normal now, but I feel a lot better.
