Training for 6/25/13

Last night, I actually did my strength training and another short run. I was pretty surprised!

It was miserably hot in the attic — definitely somewhere in the 90 to 100 degree range, and humid — but Clark offered to spot me, which meant I had someone to keep me accountable. That also meant I did all of the exercises with more weight than I would have used had I been by myself.

It’s an off week for push-ups, so I just did ab exercises and weights. I let Clark pick the exercises.

Clark was sweating just setting up between the different exercises, so you can imagine how much was pouring off of me. There’s a full-size bath towel in the attic that I use to wipe off sweat or as a cover for the bench if I’m sweating. That thing was thoroughly soaked by the end of the workout.

It was close to 8 p.m. when I got done with that, so I headed right out for my run. I didn’t know how well it would go, since I ran yesterday morning and then did my strength training just beforehand.

A brief storm had passed through while we were upstairs, but the sun was back out by the time I ran. So was a rainbow. It was a really pretty evening for a run.

It didn’t go nearly as badly as I’d expected. I did 3 miles. About a mile into it, I passed a house with a concrete driveway. These two kids were in the road in front of the house, hitting a tennis ball back and forth. I couldn’t figure out why they didn’t just use the driveway. They were gone by the time I made the turnaround and went back by on my way home.

This morning, I had hill repeats on the schedule. My regular Tuesday meeting only meets every other week in the summer, so I didn’t have to be there on time today. I slept in, even though I knew it was going to get hot quick today.

By the time I finally drove out to the Sharptown bridge, it was pretty warm. I did a mile to warm up, and then ran up and down the bridge five times. I did another mile to cool down, for a total of 4.6 miles at an average pace of 8:14/mile, according to the Garmin.

I think I’ll take tonight off.
